Reliance Entertainment has cleared the speculations around the release of Akshay Kumar’s film Sooryavanshi. The company is not only engaged in the preparation of ‘Sooryavanshi’ but the preparations for the release of ’83’ is also in full swing. Meanwhile, sources have informed that the company has given its entire staff an ultimatum to be ready for the release of these films as soon as the theatres of Maharashtra are opened with 100% capacity.
In the last two days, some reports emerged claiming that Reliance Entertainment may release ‘Sooryavanshi’ together on theatres and OTT platforms. However, agreements between the filmmakers and distributors indicate that viewers can watch the movie on the OTT platform only eight weeks after its release in the movie theatres. Recently, filmmakers of ‘Master’ reduced this ‘eight-week’ period and there was plenty of uproar by the distributors regarding this. Viewing this, Reliance Entertainment has had several rounds of talk about the film’s share with its distributors.
About 50 percent of the total revenue generated from Bollywood comes from the Mumbai distribution sector. The Mumbai distribution sector includes Maharashtra and Gujarat, the two major states of the country. The filmmakers are waiting for the re-opening of theatres in Maharashtra with 100% capacity. Due to this wait, the release of several major Bollywood films has been postponed. Recently, Reliance Entertainment’s branch Jio Studios was in the process of releasing Vineet Singh’s film Aadhaar on OTT platforms but the production house has also decided to withdraw the film’s release.
Raj Malik, business head of Miraj Entertainment, said that the audience of Bollywood is eager to watch a super hit film in the theatres. Therefore, films produced at this moment are important to revive the entertainment world in the country. Raj Malik is confident that the Maharashtra government will soon allow theatres to open with 100% capacity.
At the same time, Reliance Entertainment Group’s CEO, Shibashish Sarkar, said that the news of the re-opening of theatres with 100% capacity has been encouraging. He added that the company is planning to release ‘Sooryavanshi’ in the last week of March or the first week of April and film ’83’ in June. He also believes that large-scale panoramic films like ‘Sooryavanshi’ and ’83’ will encourage the viewers to return to theatres.
