Amazon’s quick 2 hours delivery App branded as Amazon Prime Now was launched in 2016. The App started with express delivery of essentials like groceries, household items, electronics items, gifts etc. It also used to facilitate home delivery of items from local restaurants and stores. Amazon Prime Now was launched in Bangalore but was soon launched in 6 other cities. The App was exclusively available to Amazon Prime subscribers only.
Though the initial growth of the Amazon Prime Now App was good, as 10 million downloads we recorded on Google Play store, but it doesn’t seem to have gained the expected traction. Amazon is planning to launch Amazon fresh and shut down Amazon Prime Now in India.
Amazon has yet not officially announced the shutting down of Amazon Prime Now App. Though the company is displaying messages on the Prime Now App about its migration to Amazon Fresh. The move would have concluded by now, but due to the COVID-19 crisis the launch was delayed. Amazon Fresh is said to be inclusive of all the services which are offered by Amazon Prime Now, and in addition it will have wallet and UPI and money transfer services. The company has informed its subscribers to switch to the new App, as support and services to the old App will soon be suspended.
