Putting an end to all speculations, BSNL has finally launched fourth-generation network services (4G) in parts of the country, to be extended nationwide. At present, BSNL is using its existing 3G spectrum for 4G services. The 4G facilities are available in select network circles including Kerala, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Chennai, and Tamil Nadu. The services are being extended to other cities like Moulali to Rajabazar. BSNL is enthusiastically expanding and utilizing its existing 3G spectrum to launch 4G services. Despite being a loss-making unit, launching an ambitious plan of 4G services is commendable and will surely add to the image of the telco company.
What are the new 4G plans by BSNL?
To begin with, BSNL has launched two 4G plans which offer 10 GBs of data per day with validity lasting up to 84 days. The two plans come at a rock bottom price of Rs. 96 and Rs. 236 only. The plans can be availed only in select network circles where 4G services by BSNL are enabled. The new offerings only include data services and don’t include messaging and calling services. To avail the 4G plans, customers will have to take a BSNL 4G SIM card from the nearest customer care center. The prepaid package priced at Rs. 96 has a validity of 28 days, whereas Rs. 236 plan lasts for 84 days. Both the plans offer 10 GBs of data per day until the date of validity.
BSNL’s 4G data plans are better and cheaper than those of Airtel and JIO, who have so far only launched a 2GBs per day plan. Though BSNL doesn’t match with data speed provided by telecom companies like Airtel and JIO, a speed of 10 MBps offered by BSNL is also considered good. It is said that BSNL may not continue these plans, once it commercially rolls out its 4G services nationwide.
