Amid the unrest in the country caused by the pandemic, there’s news of much-needed recourse. The central government has announced that from May 1, everyone above the age of 18 will be eligible for vaccination. This crucial decision has been taken after a meeting which was headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi said that the government is imposing huge emphasis on getting more and more people vaccinated within the country from the last year.
The government will soon make a formal announcement on whether people over the age of 18 will have to pay for the vaccine or not. Let us inform you that recently, the Chief Ministers of several states including Maharashtra had demanded to reduce the prescribed age limit of availing COVID-19 vaccine.
Another significant announcement is that the vaccine manufacturers will provide 50% of their monthly supply to the government and the remaining 50% will be free to supply to the state government. And from May 1, the vaccine will be available in the open market for everyone’s use. To get vaccinated, people will have to carry their Aadhaar card at the vaccination centre.
In the meeting with some of the prominent doctors of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that vaccination is the biggest weapon in the fight against COVID-19. Further, he also asked the doctors to encourage more and more people to get vaccinated. The PM asserted that the most critical thing is that people should not be afraid of receiving the vaccine at all.
As a matter of concern, the second wave has broken all previous records. According to the data, the second wave’s infection rate is way steeper than the first wave. Moreover, the fatality rate is high in this wave due to the double-mutant strain. On Sunday, record 2,61,500 fresh infection cases were reported within the country.
