After seeing a bumper rise of 28% in the daily collection of toll fee collection from Rs. 68 crores to Rs. 87 crores per day, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to further promote the use of FASTags. To promote the use of FASTags, The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has initiated a scheme to distribute FASTags free from 15th February to 29th February 2020. The scheme waives-off the initial cost of Rs. 100 for tags, which will attract more users of FASTags. Digital collection of toll fee has been mandated at more than 527 National Highways in the country. NHAI aims to achieve a target of Rs. 100 crores of toll collection per day.
What is the free FASTag scheme?
NHAI has waived off the initial purchase price of Rs. 100 for FASTags, however, the security deposit and minimum balance associated with the tags remain unchanged. The scheme lasts on 29th February 2020, after which the FASTags can be purchased at a regular price of Rs. 100. A similar scheme was floated by the Ministry of Road Transportation and Highways from 22nd November to 15th December 2019.
Where can one get free FASTags?
Free FASTags can be obtained from any authorized point-of-sale locations. Road users just need a copy of the registration certificate (RC) of their vehicles to get the free FASTags. Users can locate their nearest point-of-sale from MYFASTag App or they may call 1033 NH helpline number.
