Health Minister reviews the preparation of vaccination as Centre set to approve vaccines today


From 2nd January, a dry-run of the coronavirus vaccine will be conducted throughout the country. Regarding this, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan will conduct a meeting on Friday to review the preparations. The meeting is very crucial as today another meeting is slated regarding the emergency approval of two coronavirus vaccines. The meeting will consider giving emergency use to Oxford-AstraZeneca produced CoviShield and COVAXIN of Bharat BioTech.

In a virtual meeting with the Delhi government through video conferencing, the Health Minister asserted that preparations for vaccination of the first phase have been completed. Also, the list of people to get vaccinated on a prior basis is ready. He said that the dry-run of the COVID-19 vaccine will be conducted at GTB Hospital along with a private hospital based in Delhi.

Dr. Harshvardhan said that the list of health workers is ready and will be uploaded on the COVID-19 vaccination website. Similar to the preparations during the elections, we need to acquaint every member of all medical teams responsibly.

He further added that after training more than 2,000 master trainers at the national level, training is going on at the state and district levels in more than 700 districts. This procedure is identical to the election process where the team is also trained at a voting booth.

Today, the specially drafted expert committee is scheduled to meet regarding the approval of vaccines. It will consider giving emergency approval to both the available vaccines. Some days earlier, the United Kingdom has also authorized the use of the CoviShield vaccine. Previously, two meetings have already been conducted by the expert committee. In these meetings, some more information was sought from the companies making the vaccine. Significantly, India has prepared a complete action plan for vaccination.
