After the decision of permitting movie theatres to restart it’s operations from 15 October by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a set of standard operating procedures for cinema theatres on Tuesday. 

Some of the important guidelines mentioned in the standard operating procedure were : Arogya Setu app to be installed in mobile phones of every individual, availability of hand sanitizers at every entry and exit point and common premises within the multiplex (preferably of contact-less application method), social distancing of at least six feets, mandatory use of face masks at all times and prohibition of spitting and smoking.

Only asymptomatic people shall be allowed to enter the premises after mandatory check of their body temperature by a standard thermal screening gun. Designated queue markings must be made outside ticket counters and entry-exit points to ensure social distancing. To ensure smooth and non-chaotic operations, theatres should provide sufficient time interval for the audience.

As per the guidelines, only 50% capacity of the theatre must be allowed to operate. To ensure this occupancy and avoid confusion, during online booking process, seats should be marked as non-available. To avoid overcrowding, proper management of operations must be carried out. Number of people entering elevators, parking lots and common areas must be restricted to a limited number to ensure social distancing. During intermission, toilet and washroom queues must be managed to avoid over-crowding.

Digital modes of payment must be facilitated with wide range of options. Payments for food, beverages, etc must be carried out digitally. Theatres must ensure that people ordering food must submit their phone numbers for contact-tracing ease. 

Critical contact points such as railings and seatings must be sanitized frequently. Adequate stock of masks, PPE kits, gloves, boots must be available for the entire working staff. Public announcements must be made loud and clear at entry and exit points for the people, to wear masks and take all the necessary precautions to maintain safety.

Food delivery inside the hall shall be not allowed and for air conditioning, adequate cross ventilation must be provided to avoid air transmission and temperature must be maintained between 24 to 30 degrees strictly.
