Mumbai Metro will be allowed to operate from 15th October with phased operations and necessary precautions, the Maharashtra Government announced today.
The State Government’s ‘Begin Again’ guidelines for the month of October have several relaxations for smooth operations and better facilities amid the pandemic. This announcement of restarting Metro Rail services have came under these fresh guidelines.
Re-functioning of private and government libraries is also allowed among various other relaxations announced by the Maharashtra Government. Outside containment zones, business-to-business exhibitions are also permitted from tomorrow.
Excluding containment zones, local weekly markets including animal meat and fishes, will be permitted to operate with necessary precautions.
Additional functional hours have been allowed for shops and markets to operate, until 9 PM from tomorrow, to reduce the crowd density.
In a big move, stamping of passengers with inedible ink at airports after testing and railway stations, as well as health checkups, will be stopped from tomorrow for domestic passengers.
Till October-end, schools, colleges and coaching institutions in the state will remain closed thus no regular activity of these institutions will be allowed, the state government stated.
Mumbai Local Trains’ density and operation frequencies are also being increased gradually to prevent over-crowding. But presently, only essential-service workers, dabbawalas, high commissions and staff of foreign consulates are being permitted to travel.
As per the state health department, Maharashtra’s fresh coronavirus infection cases were recorded under 10,000 for the second consecutive day. Total cases in the state rose to 15,43,837 with 40,701 fatalities upto now. There are currently 2,05,415 active cases in the state.
