Director Ali Abbas Zafar’s new web series ‘Tandav’ has been mired in controversies since it’s release. The web series has faced severe backlash and criticism on social media over a particular scene. The controversial scene in the web-series arises when Zeeshan Ayyub is seen playing Lord Shiva in a comedy-drama with some objectionable script dialogues.
‘Tandav’ is a web series which talks about ‘student movements’ and conspiracies of illegal land acquisition from poor farmers. Along with this, the series also seems to open all the differences between the ‘left’ and ‘right’ wings. People are not too impressed with the use of abusive words by Saif Ali Khan and Dimple Kapadia’s characters. Whereas, some people have objections regarding a scene featuring Zeeshan Ayyub.
The controversial scene that has created a ruckus shows some ‘objectionable’ politics of leftist students and right-wing factions brewing in the Vivekananda University, which is very similar to the Jawaharlal Nehru University.
In the scene, a ‘right-wing’ leader is playing Lord Narada’s character in the comedy-drama. He further comments on Lord Sri Ram’s hypothetical social media account after which the character of Zeeshan (playing Lord Shiva) says, “Kya karoon main tasveer badal du kya?” Intervening the play, suddenly the police picks up a Muslim student leader sitting in the PCR after which Zeeshan (in Shiva’s get up) arrives at the police station with several other students to rescue him.
Sharing this scene, several users on social media are protesting against it. A social media user accused Ali Abbas of being involved with the ‘left-wing’ and is trying to advance their ‘leftist-agenda’. Many users are also calling the scene as an insult to Lord Shiva.
In addition to this, another controversial scene is displayed in the web-series. In this scene, Dino Morea is quoted telling Sandhy Mridul, “When a low-caste man dates an upper-caste woman, he is taking revenge.” Objecting to this scene, some users are calling this web-series as anti-Hindu propaganda, while many people are defending it.
Controversial ‘Tandav’ features numerous big stars including Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Zeeshan Ayyub, Sunil Grover, Gauhar Khan and Kritika Kamra.
