Complaints regarding tax evasion, undisclosed foreign assets, anonymous possession of properties by a company or an individual can now be filed online. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) informed on Tuesday that the Income Tax Department has launched an online window to make such complaints.
According to the Central Board of Direct Taxes, which outlines various policies for the Income Tax Department, a portal under the title ‘Submit Tax Evasion Petition or Benami Property Holding’ has been activated on the department’s e-filing portal. (www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in)
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) explained that through this window, people who do not possess a PAN card/Aadhaar card also can lodge a complaint. According to the CBDT, the complainant must get his/her verification done through an OTP from SMS or email, after which he/she can file the complaint.
Furthermore, the complainant will have to fill a form regarding the complaint out of three different forms of violation of Income Tax Act 1961, the imposition of Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Property and income) Tax Act, 1961 and Prevention of Benami Transactions Act. After the complaint is registered, the department will assign a unique number for each complaint, through which the complainant can check the status of his/her complaint at any moment.
According to the CBDT, the complainant will be called an ‘informer’ and will also be qualified for a prize if black money or illegal anonymous property is recovered under the departmental rules. The department will offer rewards up to one crore rupees to the complainant if an illegal anonymous property is recovered successfully and up to five crore rupees for recovery of undisclosed property or another tax evasion abroad.
